Mohammed Siraj has been fined 20% of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to using language or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal. Australian batter Travis Head was also sanctioned for violating Article 2.13, which relates to the abuse of players, support personnel, umpires, or match referees during an international match.
Both players received one demerit point on their disciplinary records for their first offenses in the last 24 months. They admitted their respective violations and accepted the sanctions proposed by Match Referee RanjanMadugalle.
The Incident occurred during the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, where tensions ran high amidst significant World Test Championship implications. After dismissing Head, who scored a fiery 140, Siraj gave him an aggressive send-off, leading to a brief verbal exchange between the two players. However, they reconciled on the field when Siraj came out to bat in India’s second innings.
Australia responded emphatically from their previous defeat in Perth, securing a commanding 10-wicket victory in Adelaide. Head’s stellar performance earned him the Player of the Match award. The victory temporarily lifted Australia to the top of the ICC World Test Championship standings before being displaced by South Africa after their win over Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, India slipped to third place as the series remains tied at 1-1, with the third Test set to begin at the Gabba in Brisbane on December 14.
