As per the report, former fast bowler of South Africa cricket team Morne Morkel has been appointed as the new bowling coach of the men’s senior team. It has also been mentioned that his contract with Team India is going to start from September 1st.
Previously in the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, Morkel and head coach Gautam Gambhir shared a successful partnership. Gambhir also took Morkel with him at the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) when the former was the mentor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit.
For the South Africa National Cricket Team, Morkel had an amazing career as he played an important role for his team across three international formats. He played 86 Tests for the Patriots, along with 117 ODIs and 44 T20Is. Morkel formed a terrific pace bowling duo with spearhead Dale Steyn.
In the longest format, he took 309 wickets at an economy rate of 3.10 and a bowling average of 27.66. Morkel took 18 four-wicket hauls, and there were eight instances when he took five wickets or more in an innings in red-ball cricket.
He was an instrumental part of the KKR squads that won the Indian Premier League titles in 2012 and 2014 under Gambhir’s watch.
