Ishan Kishan’s return to the BCCI central contract list remains uncertain, as reports suggest he has not done enough to reclaim his position. Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were dropped from the contracts earlier this year due to their failure to prioritize domestic cricket, despite directives from BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. Kishan, who last played for India in October 2023 during the ODI World Cup, has struggled with form since then, averaging just 28.04 in T20s across domestic competitions and the IPL. His performances in the India A tour to Australia and Ranji Trophy were also underwhelming.

In contrast, Shreyas Iyer appears poised for a comeback. The middle-order batter has played 11 ODIs since his exclusion, including six Champions Trophy matches where he scored 243 runs at an average of 48.60. His contributions in crucial games, coupled with leading Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in IPL 2024, have strengthened his case for a central contract.

A BCCI official confirmed that players can regain contracts on a pro-rata basis if they meet criteria such as playing three Tests, eight ODIs, or ten T20Is by September 2024. However, Kishan’s current form and lack of international appearances may delay his return. Meanwhile, discussions on the contract list remain postponed.
