The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced a new Demerit Points System for IPL 2025 to address player behavior and slow over-rates. Under this system, penalties are imposed based on the severity of offenses. For example, a Level 1 offense results in a fine of 25% of match fees and one demerit point, while more serious violations can lead to higher fines and multiple points. Accumulating four to seven points results in a one-match suspension, with harsher penalties for higher totals. These demerit points remain valid for three years, unlike the ICC’s five-year framework.

In recent matches, players have already faced consequences under the new system. During the Punjab Kings (PBKS) game, a player was fined 25% of match fees and received one demerit point. Similarly, in a Mumbai Indians (MI) match, an offender faced a 50% match fee deduction along with two demerit points.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made headlines during the IPL 2025 auction by acquiring promising all-rounder Digvesh Rathi for ₹30 lakhs. This move reflects LSG’s strategy to strengthen their squad with emerging talent as they aim for a strong season ahead.
