Deepti Sharma, an Indian all-rounder, has been named the captain of UP Warriorz for the 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL). This decision follows Alyssa Healy's exclusion from the tournament due to a stress injury in her right foot.
Born in Agra, Deepti has been a consistent performer for the Warriorz, holding the position of their second-highest wicket-taker with 19 wickets in 17 games and their third-highest run-scorer with 385 runs in 16 innings. In the 2024 WPL, she amassed 295 runs in eight innings, maintaining a strike rate of 136.57 and an average of 98.33, while also claiming ten wickets.
Deepti's captaincy experience includes leading Bengal in domestic cricket and East Zone in the Senior Women's Inter-Zonal One Day Trophy in 2024. She also captained Velocity in the Women's T20 Challenge in 2022.
The Warriorz will miss Alyssa Healy, their highest run-scorer in the WPL with 428 runs in 17 outings. Healy has faced a series of injuries, including a plantar fascia rupture at the T20 World Cup in October 2024 and a knee injury during the WBBL 2024-25. Chinnelle Henry, a West Indies all-rounder, has been called up as Healy's replacement for the season.
