Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced an initial setback when their pacer MatheeshaPathirana was sidelined due to injury before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Pathirana’s match fitness was uncertain, casting doubts on CSK’s death bowling options. Despite regaining match fitness, Pathirana’s availability was hindered by a pending No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Sri Lanka.
