The Mumbai Indians have made history by becoming the first team to earn a playoff place in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 after a resounding victory over the Gujarat Giants by a margin of 55 runs at the Brabourne Stadium on Tuesday, March 14th.Harmanpreet Kaur, the Mumbai Indians' captain, was instrumental in their victory, batting brilliantly. Despite being asked to bat first, Kaur led her side to an unbeaten score of 162/8. In reaction, the Gujarat Giants struggled to keep up with the pace and were eventually limited to a score of 107/9. This was mainly due to the outstanding bowling performances of Nat Sciver-Brunts (3/21), and Hayley Matthews (3/23).The Gujarat Giants experienced a significant setback in their quest to reach a 163-run target when Nat Sciver-Brunt caught her English compatriot Sophia Dunkley in front for a golden duck. Hayley Matthews quickly removed S Meghana (16) and Annabel Sutherland (0), which meant that the side never really got moving. The loss of both Deol and Gardner caused the Giants, who were highly dependent on her and Ash Garder, to suffer a severe setback in their pursuit of the run.
