Prithvi Shaw has been picked to the T20I team after spectacular exploits in the Ranji Trophy, when he hit 379 runs against Assam, the tournament's second-highest individual total.
Prithvi Shaw made a long-awaited return to the Indian cricket team, as the promising top-order hitter from Mumbai was named to the squad for the T20I series against New Zealand, which begins later this month. Late Friday night, the BCCI confirmed the squad. Three T20Is and three ODIs will be played in New Zealand. India will open the series on January 18 with 50-over matches. The T20 series will begin on January 27 and conclude on February 1.
Hardik Pandya will lead the side in the three-match T20I series with star batsmen Rohit Sharma, Virat and Shreyas missing the T20I leg of the series. Shaw last played a match for India in July, 2021.
Recently Prithvi Shaw made a stellar 379 in a Ranji Trophy match against Assam. This is the second-highest score in the premiere domestic cricket competition. In the close to nine decades of Indian first-class cricket history, Shaw has the second highest individual score after Bhausaheb Nimbalkar's 443 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in Pune back in 1948-49.
After that knock, Shaw got emotional on how he was left disappointed with people judging him wrongly.
"Sometimes, you do get frustrated," said the U-19 World Cup winning India captain.
"You know you are doing your things right. You know you are doing your processes right, you are honest with your self, disciplined with your career on and off the field. But sometimes people do talk differently. People who don't even know you judge you," the hurt was palpable in his voice.
