The Chennai Super Kings are going to take on the Gujarat Titans in the finals of the Indian Premier League season 2023, as the title clash was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday but was postponed to Monday because of continuous heavy rain in Ahmedabad. CSK was the first team to reach the finals after defeating Gujarat Titans in qualifier 1, while Gujarat Titans defeated Mumbai Indians in qualifier 2 to reach the finals.
Throughout the season, there were rumours about the IPL future of Dhoni after the 16th edition, but Dhoni has remained tight-lipped on this. Former opener of the Indian Cricket Team, Virender Sehwag, who has played under the captaincy of MS Dhoni for Team India, has also spoken on the potential future of the CSK captain.
He said, "It's not difficult to play cricket in your 40s if you're fit. MS Dhoni hasn't batted too much this year. He's not aggravating his knee injury. Often, he would come in in the last two overs. If I count the total balls he faced, I think he would've faced 40–50 deliveries this season. The impact player rule doesn't apply to MS Dhoni. Because he's playing only for captaincy. He has to stay on the ground for captaincy. The impact player rule is for someone who doesn't field but bats, or a bowler who doesn't need to bat. Dhoni has to field 20 overs; if he's not the captain, he won't even play as an impact player. Then, you will see him as a mentor, coach, or director of cricket."
